Variations of this Recipe
Change up the cookies. There is nothing that beats a homemade chocolate chip cookie! If you are using store-bought cookies, make sure you are using a soft chocolate chip cookie, the hard ones will crumble when you go to break them to make the mouth shape. This recipe will also work if you use refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough if you do not want to make homemade cookie dough.
Change Cookie Flavors. Instead of using chocolate chip cookies, try using another kind of cookie like sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, or even peanut butter cookies as the base. Each type of cookie will offer a unique flavor and texture to your vampire teeth.
Flavored Frosting. Experiment with different flavored frostings to add an extra twist to your cookies. Vanilla, cream cheese, or even mint-flavored frosting. If you are using my vanilla buttercream recipe you can change out the vanilla extract for any other flavor extract to change it.
Tips for making this recipe
Assemble one at a time. When making these vampire teeth cookies, it is best to assemble one cookie at a time. This is important because the frosting dries fast, and if it dries too quickly, it can make it hard to stick on the marshmallows and slivered almonds properly.
Make large cookies. You will want to make the cookies larger than you normally do when making cookies for this recipe. You will want to make them 2-3 inches in diameter.
Cool cookies. Make sure the cookies have cooled completely before putting them together.
Can I make these cookies ahead of time?
I suggest making these cookies on the same morning you plan to serve them for the freshest taste. However, if you need to save time, making them a day ahead is an option.
How to store Vampire Cookies
Place the cookies in an airtight container. This prevents air from getting in and helps maintain their freshness. If you plan to consume the cookies within a day or two, you can store them at room temperature, any longer than you need to store them in the refrigerator. Just remember to allow them to come to room temperature before serving.
If you need to stack the cookies on top of each other in the container, place parchment paper between the layers to prevent them from sticking together or smudging the frosting.
Vampire Cookies Ingredients
Chocolate chip cookies. Use homemade soft chocolate chip cookies. You want to make them so they are a bit bigger than you usually would make them so that you can break them in half to make the mouth.
Buttercream frosting. You will need a batch of white frosting. You can use Vanilla buttercream frosting, Almond Frosting, or marshmallow frosting. I use vanilla frosting in this recipe but you can change it to a different one.
Red food coloring. I prefer to use gel food coloring when I am coloring frosting.
Mini marshmallows. Mini marshmallows will give these vampire cookies their normal teeth.
Slivered almonds. Almond slivers to give them that creepy vampire look!
How to Make Vampire Cookies
Once the cookies are baked remove them from the oven and place them on a wire rack to cool.
While the cookies are cooling make the buttercream frosting, using the red food dye to color it red.
Next, cut each cookie in half to make 2 semi-circles.
Lay the cookie halves on a baking sheet.
Add the buttercream frosting to a piping bag.
Pipe the buttercream on top of each cookie half using a piping bag.
On 1/2 of the cookie place the marshmallows into the front of the semi-circle to create the gums, then place the mini marshmallows for the vampire’s teeth.
Place the other half of the cookie onto the top of the marshmallows gently pressing down so the top will stick. Repeat this with all the cookies
Add two slivered almonds to the front of the cookie leaving a small space in between to create the vampire fangs. Repeat this on all the vampire mouths.
