I enjoying going clothing shopping, not just for myself but for the kids as well. I like coming up with fun outfits in my head and then buying the items to create them. It is probably the one thing that I have a “problem with” because I also tend to hoard my kids clothing because I fall in love with outfits that they wore but that is a story for another day. When shopping it is easy to see something totally cute and want to buy it and soon you are spend hundreds on a few super cute things and then do not want to part with your picks cause they are just so cute but there are lots of ways that you can save money on clothing without blowing your budget.
How to save money on clothing without blowing your budget
Shop consignment sales and stores to save money on clothing
This is a big one, you can find a lot of super cute in style and name brand clothing at prices that are a STEAL when you are shopping consignment sales and stores. You can google consignment sales in your area and you will find that they have them at lots of places. I know by me they have them at the local mall a few times a year. I know the common reason why people don’t shop there is because “other people have worn them” but everytime I have gone to a sale or store I have found lots of items that still have their tags on them, look like they were never worn and even if they were worn when you are buying new clothing people have probably tried the item on before you did. Just wash everything when you get home. There are some online consignment stores too that I like shopping at, Thredup (which gives everyone a FREE $10 credit) and LikeTwice that often has coupon codes
Shop Online Sales and use coupon codes
Many times a week I post deals for clothing. You can find a lot of clothing deals for kids clothing at The Children’s Place, they offer FREE Shipping all the time and discount codes, Amazon is another place that I find great deals on clothing and I can not forget Kohl’s . When you are shopping online check the clearance section first then see if there are any coupon codes that you can use. I also like shopping at Sears because when I shop there I get money back to spend there later with their Shop Your Way Rewards Program.
Buy Items you can wear all year round
I wear jeans all year long and the same goes for tshirts. You can easily save a TON of money by having items like denim that you can wear all year long or t shirts. If you are cold during the colder months you can throw on a sweater and still have a cute look. For my girls I buy them dresses and leggings, the dresses they can wear all year long and during the winter months they can wear the leggings with shirts or under a dress that they normally wear in the summer months.
Shop for clothing at yardsales
I have found soooo many amazing deals on clothing at yardsales. Brand name jeans that are normally $30+ for kids for .50-$1! Jeans do not tend to go out of style so these are great finds. I bought all of my kids clothing at yardsales when they were younger, especially for baby clothing it doesn’t get worn much and babies do not ruin much so instead of paying $5+ for a shirt or outfit for a baby you can get brand name ones at yard sales that are in perfect condition for just .50-$1!
buy items that go with just about anything
Instead of buying 5 pairs of colored jeans buy 5 pairs of denim or black pants and then get tops to change it up. Buying a black sweater instead of a few different colored ones will make it so you can use that sweater for many different outfits and pair it with many different tops then having to make sure the shirt you are wearing matches the sweater you are wanting to wear.
Save money on clothing when purchasing off season and end of season
I often stock up for my kids the year before they will wear something. At the end of the summer you can score amazing deals on summer clothing and the same goes for winter time. There are some items that it is hard to do that with when it comes to kids who want to wear things in style, but jeans and tees are something you can stock up on with out having to worry.
Stock up on accessories
Adding accessories like rings, watches, bracelets, necklaces and scarfs are a great way to save money on your clothing. Amazon has lots of scarfs that are just $2-$3 each that you can add to a white shirt and a pair of jeans and have a super cute outfit!
Buy Neutral colored shoes
Instead of buying bright colored pairs of shoes that will only match one or two outfits buy shoes that will go with many different outfits. Picking shoes that are black, tan and brown are good choices. If you are one who wears a lot of jeans and black tops then instead of just having black shoes find ones on sale that are in different colors so instead of spending money on the tops switch it to spending it on your shoes.
You can always dress super cute without without blowing your budget you just have to know how to save money to do so!
