What are hard boiled eggs?
Hard-boiled eggs are eggs that have been cooked in their shells in boiling water until both the egg white and yolk have solidified. The term “hard-boiled” refers to the firm texture of the egg white and yolk after cooking.
Tips and Tricks
Start with room temperature eggs. Taking the eggs out of the fridge a little before cooking allows them to warm up slightly, which helps in achieving even cooking.
Experiment with cooking times. If you prefer a softer yolk, reduce the cooking time slightly, and if you like a firmer yolk, increase it a bit. It’s all about finding your perfect balance.
Use the right basket or rack. If your air fryer comes with a dedicated egg holder or rack, use it to keep the eggs stable and prevent rolling. Otherwise, you can place them directly in the basket, making sure they are positioned securely.
Leave some space in the air fryer. Due to the convection cooking method employed by the air fryer, it is essential for the air to circulate effectively to ensure even cooking. To achieve this, it’s advisable to maintain some space between each egg and avoid overcrowding the air fryer. This allows for better air circulation and promotes even cooking results.
Let them cool before peeling. Once the cooking time is up, transfer the eggs to a bowl of cold water or an ice bath to cool down. This helps in stopping the cooking process and makes peeling easier.
Give them a gentle roll. To make peeling a breeze, gently tap the egg on a hard surface to crack the shell all around, then roll it between your hands to loosen the shell. The air fryer method typically results in easier peeling, but a little rolling can help.

How do you peel eggs after hard boiling them?
Peeling cooked eggs is easy when you know how to peel them.
Cooling the Eggs: After boiling the eggs, remove them from the hot water and immediately place them in a bowl of ice water (ice water bath) or cold water. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to cool down. Cooling the eggs quickly helps create a slight contraction between the egg white and the inner membrane, making it easier to peel.
Cracking the Shell: Gently tap the egg on a hard surface, such as the countertop or cutting board. Roll the egg back and forth under your palm to create small cracks all over the shell. Be gentle to avoid crushing the egg underneath.
Peeling the Shell: Start peeling the egg from the wide end, where the air pocket is located. This is usually where the membrane between the shell and the egg white is most separated. This makes it easier to start peeling from there. You can use your fingers to peel the shell or start with a small spoon to get under the shell and lift it off.
Do I need to use an Ice Bath with Hard boiled eggs?
You do not have to make an ice bath for the hardboiled eggs to cool. You can let them sit out of the hot water to cool which makes the cooling time quicker. It also makes the egg shell removal process a lot less of a hassle.
