How to Save Space when Packing for Travel
When it comes to traveling, we often pack our suitcases to the gills, without giving second thoughts to the extra baggage that we are carrying. Not only do we endure the hardship of lugging the items with us, but also depending on your mode of transportation, we could be charged on the weight and the amount of items (suitcases) that we have brought with us. Here are some tips on how to save space to packing for travel.
Tips on Saving Space for Travel
1. Plan Ahead- It is important that you plan as to what you are taking. If you leave everything to the last minute, you may forget something, or even pack more than you need. Therefore, it is important that you plan ahead and decide on what you are going to need on your trip. Give yourself about two weeks to get your stuff organized.
2. Only Pack the Essentials- When laying out your stuff for travel, it is vital that you only choose the essentials. A couple of changes of clothing, sweater, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, makeup kits, health and beauty items, and a couple of pairs of shoes. Some entertainment material such as electronics and a book could also be included. Many hotels have laundry facilities should your clothing become soiled, and need washing.
3. Roll Your Clothing- In order to save space in your suitcase and also have your clothes presentable, roll your clothing into neat little bundles. Underwear and socks, ties, scarves, and other accessories can be safely tucked inside shoes. Remember to place toiletries in a zip lock bag in order to catch any leakage.
4. Heaviest Items on the Bottom- When packing your suitcase, remember to have the heaviest items on the bottom. This is generally shoes, hair dryer, and other similar items. After these are placed inside the suitcase, then your rolled clothing can be placed in the suitcase. If you happen to be taking any dry cleaned items, lay them at the top of the suitcase. By doing so, you will help to prevent them from wrinkling.
The above tips will help to ensure that you pack only what you need and pack it properly as well. If you are traveling by air, it makes sense to check with the airlines as to the size restrictions for suitcases. By doing so, you will know the size of the suitcase that is permissible, and avoid stress as well.

Great ideas. I tend to overpack by taking some things “just in case.”
