I know that hot chocolate bombs are all the rage right now and we love making them, like our Peppermint Hot Chocolate Bombs and our Unicorn Hot Chocolate Bombs. However we also know they are a bit labor intensive and we wanted to come up with a solution that is similar to them but not as much work. Bring on the Hot Chocolate Truffles!

How to make hot chocolate with hot chocolate truffles
To make the hot chocolate using a hot chocolate truffle bomb, Bring one cup of milk to a boil, being careful not to let it boil over.
Drop a truffle hot chocolate into the milk.
Stir until the chocolate bomb and toppings are dissolved. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
Variations of this recipe
Hot chocolate truffles are very easy to customize and change up the flavors.
Change up the chocolate. I use milk chocolate chips for mine but you can use dark chocolate chips or white chocolate chips.
Change up the Flavors. The different flavors of hot chocolate come from the chocolate truffle toppings that you roll the hot chocolate truffle in. There are lots of different flavor combinations that you can make. I have listed a lot of different flavor combinations of hot cocoa truffle bombs below for you with how much of the topping you will need when making this recipe.
Hot Chocolate Truffles Favor Combinations
This recipe will make 16 hot chocolate truffles, these are the toppings I use the most when making them. You will need these amounts of toppings for each flavor to cover 12 hot chocolate truffles when you are making them depending on the flavor you want to make.
Peppermint Candy Hot chocolate Truffles. Use peppermint extract and 1 cup crushed peppermint for the topping.
Marshmallow Hot Chocolate truffles. Use flavor extract of choice, peppermint and vanilla extract are my favorites and 1 cup mini marshmallows for the topping.
Cocoa Hot Chocolate truffles. Use flavor extract of choice and 1/2 cup cocoa powder for the topping.
White Chocolate Peppermint Hot chocolate truffles. Use peppermint extract and 1 cup white chocolate peppermint curls for the topping.
Peanut Butter hot chocolate truffles. Use Peanut butter extract or vanilla extract and 1 cup Peanut Butter baking chips for the topping.
Andes Mint hot chocolate truffles. Use mint extract and 1 cup of chopped Andes Mints for the topping.
Cinnamon Hot Chocolate truffle. Use cinnamon extract and 1/2 cup of ground cinnamon for the topping.
Coconut Hot chocolate truffle. Use Coconut extract and 1/2 cup cocoa powder for the topping.
Hot Chocolate Truffle Bombs Ingredients
- 12 ounces chocolate chips
- 1/2 pint heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon extract of choice
- Toppings of choice
How to Make Hot Chocolate Truffles
Add the chocolate chips in a medium heat-safe bowl and melt using a double boiler. If you have never melted chocolate with a double boiler, read how to melt chocolate in a double boiler.
Once the chocolate is melted slowly whisk in the heavy cream and peppermint extract to the chocolate.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 2 hours.
Line a sheet pan with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
With a small scoop ball up the chocolate mixture in to 12 balls and place onto the sheet pan.
Place in the freezer for 30 minutes until the balls have firmed up.
Roll the balls to round them off.
Then Roll the Balls in your favorite toppings like white chocolate curls, mini marshmallows, or crushed peppermint.
Store in the fridge until ready to use.
