How to Make Buffalo Sauce Thicker
There is nothing worse than a thin buffalo sauce. It just doesn’t stick as well when it is runny. The sauce will thicken as it sits. If you find that the sauce isn’t as thick as you would like, you can easily thicken it with just a few steps.
While the sauce is heating in the sauce pan, mix together about a tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water together in a small bowl. Add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce and cook for about 2 minutes. This will help thicken the sauce.
Do I have to Use Fran’s Hot sauce?
If you have a favorite hot sauce then you can use that however I will give you the heads up that I have made it with other brands and I am not a fan of the flavor, frank’s redhot sauce is the only hot sauce I use when I am making this easy buffalo sauce recipe.

If you want to make buffalo chicken wings (or boneless buffalo chicken wings) with this sauce, cook your chicken and then put it in a bowl. Add this buffalo sauce recipe to the bowl and then toss the chicken in it.
Homemade Buffalo Sauce Recipe Ingredients
- 12 ounces bottle frank’s hot sauce
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
How to Make Homemade Buffalo Sauce
Melt butter in a medium sized sauce pan over medium-low heat.
Add Frank’s red hot sauce, rice vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika and mix well and turn to low.
Brink to simmer for 20 minutes till the sauce is well combined and thickens.
Remove from stove and let cool slightly, remove excess separated butter if desired, and use an immersion blender to blend sauce.
Serve with chicken wings or your favorite dish.
