Tips for making Holiday Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls
Use mini M&Ms, the regular sized M&Ms are to big to work well with this recipe.
To keep the balls the same size I used a scoop like this.
Use a good quality melting chocolate. When you use a good quality dipping chocolate it makes Hershey chocolate tastes like generic chocolate. You will also get a much better melt, it will melt easier and it will harden up better.
Make dipping easy. To help the dipping process I like to use a dipping fork.
Don’t skip on the chill time. It is important that they are in the freezer before dipping in the chocolate for 15 minutes at least and after being dipped in the chocolate it is important that they are put in the fridge to set while on the baking sheet.
Variations of this recipe
Chcocolate or peanut butter drizzle. You can drizzle the tops of the peanut butter balls with melted chocolate or melted peanut butter before putting the chocolate peanut butter balls into the fridge to chill.
Change up the candy. I like mini M&Ms but you can also use Reese’s pieces.
Change up the peanut butter. I like smooth peanut butter but you can also use chunky peanut butter.
How do you dip peanut butter balls?
The best way to dip a peanut butter ball in chocolate is to use a fork. Place the cold peanut butter ball into the melted chocolate and then use a fork to move the ball in the chocolate so it’s completely coated and then use the fork to remove it from the melted chocolate.
What is the best Peanut butter to use?
You can use any peanut butter when making this recipe. Both smooth or chunky peanut butter will work.
What type of chocolate should I use?
Use real chocolate when you are making them. Chocolate chips are my go to, but you can use just about any chocolate.
What do I do if my peanut butter gets soft and sticky?
If the peanut butter dough gets soft put in the fridge for a few minutes. While you are working with the peanut butter dough it can get soft which will make it stick to your hands. If this happens just put the peanut butter dough in the fridge to chill a bit and then keep moving on making the chocolate peanut butter balls.
Can you make these ahead of time?
Yes! If you want to make them ahead of time you can and then store them in the fridge. You can also make the peanut butter dough ahead of time and store it in the fridge for 2-3 days before making the balls and dipping them in chocolate.
How to Store Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls
Chocolate peanut butter balls are best stored in an air-tight container. To make things easier I like to place wax paper between the layers of no bake peanut butter balls when putting them in the container so they do not stick together.
How long do peanut butter balls last?
Peanut Butter Bon Bons need to be stored covered in the refrigerator for 3-7 days.
Can You Freeze Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls?
These no bake chocolate peanut butter balls can be frozen for up to 6 months.
How to Freeze Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls
Place the baking sheet in the freezer after making them and allow them to freeze solid. Once frozen solid place the chocolate peanut butter balls in to a zip close freezer bag.
