Heart Shaped Valentine’s Day Rice Krispie Treats
Whenever a holiday comes around it is my time to get all fancy. I don’t let a holiday pass by without celebrating and Valentine’s Day is one of my favorites. It is the perfect day to show my family that I love them. My kids all know that Valentine’s Day is going to be filled with cute heart treats and Valentine’s Day-themed food just because I can.
I like to start the morning with a heart themed breakfast, Chocolate Covered Strawberry French Toast and Heart shaped Bacon are my normal go to. But sometimes I like to change things up and make pink heart pancakes, pink strawberry waffles and chocolate covered strawberries.
For lunch things like heart shaped quesadillas are perfect. Then for dinner I like to get a little bit fancy and make a steak with veggies on the side and then a fun and festive Valentine’s Day dessert.
One of the great things about these easy heart rice krispies treats is that you can change them up and decorate them with things you already have on hand to match Valentine’s Day.

Tips for Making Rice Krispie Treats
Use a silicone spatula. I find it best to use a silicone spatula or spoon and spray it generously with non stick spray. Then I gently spread with out pushing down hard, the cereal and marshmallow mixture into my baking dish. This gives the perfect rice krispie treats with out them being hard.
Use a large bowl. Make sure to use a bowl big enough for the 6 cups of cereal when melting the marshmallows to reduce the amount of dishes used.
Be gentle when pressing cereal mixture into glass baking dish. You do not want to press hard, you want to be gentle and you want to be soft when you are pressing the mixture into the baking dish.
Use fresh marshmallows. It is super important that you use fresh marshmallows when making rice crispy treats or you will end up with hard krispy treats and not soft and chewy treats that you love.
Use a greased spatula. The cereal and marshmallow mixture is sticky when you remove it from the pot to put it into the baking dish, so using a greased spatula will make things much easier.
Variations of Heart Rice Krispie Treats Recipe
Color the Rice Krispie Treats. If you want to make pink or red rice krispie treats add a few drops of food coloring to the marshmallows and butter before heating them in the microwave.
Add Chocolate chips. If you want to add a hint of chocolate white chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips are a great addition. Add them into the mixture when you add the sprinkles.
Dip in chocolate. For this recipe I drizzled the tops of the heart rice krispies with white chocolate, but you can also dip parts of the rice krispie treats into the chocolate.
Use different colored Candy Melts. For this recipe, I used white candy melts, but pink candy melts and red candy melts are also great options if you want to make them more colorful.
How do you color Rice Krispie Treats?
If you want to color rice crispies when you have mixed the melted butter and the marshmallow together add a few drops of food coloring and mix to color the mixture. You can use any food coloring color that you want to and it is super easy to color them to match any holiday you are celebrating.
Where can the heart-shaped mold be purchased?
This mold was purchased at Michael’s, so check your local craft stores for a similar mold, or you can purchase a similar mold on Amazon.
Can I use a 9×13 inch baking pan or a 9×9 inch pan instead of the heart-shaped mold?
You can use either of those pans if you want to cut the treats into squares or use either with a cookie cutter to get the heart shape.
How to store Rice Krispie Treats
You can store them in an airtight container right out at room temperature for about three days. If you need to extend their life, you can place them in the fridge for up to five days.
