If you are looking for a fun and festive drink to enjoy during the Holiday season and while you are celebrating Christmas this Christmas Spiked Eggnog recipe is perfect.
I call it Grinch Spiked Eggnog because I made it to enjoy it while I was watching the How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie with the family. This Grinch cocktail is the perfect color to be a Christmas eggnog recipe or you can skip adding the food coloring if you don’t want it.
This recipe is super easy to make and you don’t need anything fancy. You just need some eggnog, rum, food coloring (if you choose), and a cup.
I choose to garnish my cup with some red colored sugar to make it festive but you can opt not to if you don’t want it.
Even better this Christmas cocktail recipe can be made as a single drink or a large batch, making it perfect for your next Christmas party. The prep time is just a few minutes and there is no cocktail shaker needed to make it.

What is Eggnog?
Eggnog, a classic dairy-based concoction with a history dating back to the 1600s, comprises ingredients including whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, and spices. This indulgent punch offers a rich and velvety texture, reminiscent of sipping on a luscious custard.
Tips for Making this recipe
Choose Quality Ingredients. Start with high-quality eggnog. You can either make your own or buy a premium store-bought version.
Keep It Cold. Serve your eggnog cocktail chilled. Chill the eggnog itself and also use ice cubes if desired.
Serve in Festive Glassware. I like putting a sugar rim around mine but you can use holiday-themed glassware or mugs to enhance the festive atmosphere when serving your eggnog cocktail.
Use neon green food coloring. If you are wanting to make this drink a bright green color you will want to use the neon green food coloring.
Variations of this recipe
Change up the alcohol. For this recipe, we are using rum but there are other liquors that are great to pair with eggnog including bourbon, brandy, Baileys Irish cream, cinnamon whisky, and whiskey.
Add Flavorful Enhancements. Experiment with flavorings like vanilla extract, nutmeg, ground cinnamon, a cinnamon stick, or cloves to enhance the eggnog’s taste.
Skip the food coloring. If you are not a fan of food coloring then you can totally skip it. I just wanted my drink to make the fun movie night I was having with the kids.
Use homemade Eggnog. You can use storebought eggnog like I do in this recipe or you can use your favorite homemade eggnog recipe. If you are low carb you can make some homemade lowcarb eggnog to use.
Add some whipped cream. A dollop of whipped cream is perfect on top, you can make your own homemade whipped cream super easy.
What is the best rum to use for Spiked Eggnog?
Dark Rum. Dark rum, such as Jamaican or aged rum, is a classic choice for spiked eggnog. It has a rich, robust flavor with hints of caramel, vanilla, and spices that complement the creamy sweetness of the eggnog. Brands like Captain Morgan, Myers’s, or Goslings are popular options.
Spiced Rum. Spiced rum is another favorite for eggnog because it already contains spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, which blend seamlessly with the eggnog’s flavor. Brands like Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum or Sailor Jerry are commonly used for this purpose.
Aged Rum. Aged rums have complex flavors with notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel. They can add depth and sophistication to your eggnog cocktail. Brands like Mount Gay, Ron Diplomático, or Appleton Estate are good choices.
How can I make this for a crowd?
Whether you’re hosting a holiday party or really enjoy alcoholic eggnog, you can prepare a generous batch by combining one gallon of eggnog with 3 1/2 cups of rum. I suggest when making a large batch that you use a large bowl and add the eggnog to it, then using a whisk mix it all together. Then pour it into a pitcher and store it in the fridge until you are ready to enjoy.
If you are having a party, decorate the glasses beforehand so all you have to do is pour the drinks and enjoy.
