What is a Hot Chocolate Bomb?
Hot chocolate bombs are a fun and simple way to have fun with hot chocolate. A hot chocolate bomb is a sphere of chocolate that you create in a half sphere mold with melted chocolate.
Before sealing the chocolate halves you fill them with hot chocolate mix, marshmallows and peppermint.
The hot chocolate gingerbread house is then placed in a mug, and heated milk poured over it.
The heated milk causes the chocolate to melt, the insides of the hot chocolate bomb to “explode” and then you mix it making a tasty hot chocolate.
For these hot chocolate bombs we are skipping the sphere shape and using a silicone gingerbread house chocolate mold and making traditional hot chocolate bombs even better!
How to Use a Hot chocolate Bomb
To use the hot cocoa bombs, place them in a mug and pour 16 ounces of hot milk over the top. Each of these hot chocolate bombs will make 2 cups of hot chocolate.
Stir until the hot cocoa bombs are completely melted and enjoy!
What Chocolate is best for Chocolate bombs?
I like using chocolate melts when making chocolate bombs because I do not have too worry about the temperature of the chocolate, I just melt it and make them.
If you are using chocolate bars or chocolate chunks, then you will want to use a chocolate that has 65% cocoa or more.
You do not want to use chocolate chips, they will not work well for making hot chocolate bombs.
Tips for Making Hot Chocolate Bombs
Make sure the chocolate is melted thoroughly. You want to make sure the chocolate is smoothly melted before you use it in the chocolate molds. You can microwave per the directions on the package or melt the chocolate with a double boiler.
Allow chocolate to harden fully. While you might be impatient like myself, when you are placing the chocolate in the freezer to harden back up it is important. You need to let it fully harden or you will have issues removing it from the molds, and you will have issues with the chocolate bombs falling apart.
Use good quality chocolate. Using chocolate melts is the easiest way to go but using a higher quality chocolate will give you a better hot chocolate flavor.
Hot chocolate Bomb Flavors
For these gingerbread hot chocolate bombs I used mini marshmallows however you can totally change up the flavors to make them what you want.
Milk Chocolate. Use Milk Chocolate melts and add hot cocoa mix inside, you can use just about any flavor hot chocolate mix that you want to with this one.
Pumpkin Spice. Use white chocolate and pumpkin spice hot chocolate mix inside.
Cookies and Cream. Use white chocolate melting chocolates and fill with Cookies and Cream hot chocolate mix. Top with a milk chocolate drizzle and a chunk of Oreo cookie.
Chocolate Raspberry. Use dark chocolate or milk chocolate melts, fill with Raspberry hot cocoa mix and marshmallows. Drizzle with chocolate if you want to.
Salted Caramel. Use dark chocolate or milk chocolate melts, fill with Salted Caramel hot cocoa mix and marshmallows. Drizzle with chocolate if you want to.

Dark Chocolate. Use Dark Chocolate Melts and add hot cocoa mix inside, you can use just about any flavor hot chocolate mix that you want to with this one.
Reece’s. Crush up peanut butter cups and place some inside, drizzle with milk chocolate and then sprinkle crushed up peanut butter cups on top of the chocolate drizzle.
Marshmallow. Use dark chocolate, white chocolate or milk chocolate and skip adding any additional flavors and just use mini marshmallows and hot cocoa mix inside. Drizzle with melted chocolate and top with mini marshmallows.

How to Make Gingerbread Hot Chocolate Bombs
Place chocolate candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave per the directions on the package.
Place 2 tbsp melted candy melt into one of the gingerbread house molds and, using the bottom of your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the chocolate up the sides of the mold, keeping it thick but even. Repeat with all of the molds.
On a baking sheet, lined with a non-stick silicone baking sheet or parchment paper, draw a small square of chocolate with a decorating bag and small piping tip, large enough to serve as a bottom for the gingerbread houses. Repeat drawing 6 squares.
Working with the first square of chocolate you made, fill it in with a solid filling of chocolate, making it about ¼ inch thick and as flat as you can possibly make it.
Place the chocolate filled molds and baking sheet into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Remove molds from the freezer and gently slide the chocolate out of the mold.
Fill the molds with 2 tbsp hot chocolate mix and 10-15 mini marshmallows.
Press one of the chocolate squares onto the bottom of a house, then using the chocolate in your decorating bag with the small piping tip, form a join line between the chocolate square and the house, joining the two pieces.
Use melted white chocolate if you want to, to add more decorations to the top of the gingerbread house, you will need about 1/2 cup of white chocolate melted to cover all 6 of them.
Using a sifter, dust the powdered sugar over the assembled hot cocoa bombs or make an icing by adding a teaspoon of milk to your powdered sugar and ice the tops of the houses.
Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them to set, then remove and store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.
