We Love Elf on the Shelf!
I have been doing Elf on the Shelf in our house since 2009, you might think I am out of easy elf ideas, but thankfully I am not. In fact, I have been planning new elf on the shelf ideas to do this year for the last few months. It is one of my favorite things to do during the Christmas holiday season.
My kids love Elf on the Shelf, even the ones who have now outgrown parts of the tradition still rush down in the morning to see what antics or gift the elf has brought that day. It is a tradition in our house that is just as important as getting our Christmas tree.
What Is Elf on the Shelf?
The Elf on the Shelf is a popular Christmas tradition that originated from a children’s book of the same name, written by Carol Aebersold and Chanda Bell. The story revolves around a scout elf who is sent by Santa Claus to watch over children during the holiday season and report back to the North Pole each night. The elf then returns to a different spot in the house, allowing the children to find it in a new location every morning.
Many families enjoy the antics of their family elf each day when they come back home and everyone wakes up to see what the elf has done that morning.
The Elf on the Shelf has become a beloved and widespread tradition in many households, adding an extra element of magic and anticipation to the holiday season.

When Does Elf on the Shelf Start?
For us, our Elves (we have 2 George Twinkle and Snow), come every year on December 1st, and then on Christmas Eve, they go home back to the North Pole with Santa. Those 24 days though can sometimes get to be a bit much so I made these free printables that I am excited to share with you.
It is perfectly acceptable to have the Elf arrive anytime between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. You can pick the date of your elf’s arrival.
