Variations Of Homemade Pizza dough
Use whole wheat dough. If you would like to you can substitute the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour in this homemade pizza dough.
Add sugar or spices. You can add a tablespoon of sugar or Italian seasoning to the crust if you want to change up the flavor a bit.
What is the best flour for homemade pizza dough?
Many will say to use bread flour when making homemade pizza dough, however, in our house I keep things simple and rarely have anything other then all-purpose flour, so to make things easy for everyone this recipe uses all-purpose flour.
You can use bread flour in place of the all purpose flour with the same ratio if you want to.
All-Purpose flour will give you a fluffier and lighter crust, while using bread flour you will have a crispier crust.
Tips for making homemade Pizza Dough
Bake the pizza crust on a pizza pan or a pizza stone for the best results.
When you are working on making your pizza dough make sure you have a clean work surface. Roll the dough with a rolling pin on a floured surface for the easiest rolling of the pizza crust.
I find it easiest to make homemade pizza dough in a KitchenAid mixer, If you do not have a stand mixer you can use a large mixing bowl and a wooden spoon for the mixing step.
Tips for Making Homemade Pizza
You need the best homemade pizza crust and the best pizza sauce recipe. Make your homemade pizza crust, top it with this easy homemade pizza sauce and then add on your toppings.
Spread the sauce evenly and generously. You want to be able to taste the rich tomato flavors of the sauce with every bite you take of the pizza.
Allow the pizza to cool for 5-10 minutes after baking. Pizza comes out of the oven hot, so it is important to let it cool enough that you do not burn your mouth.
How to stretch pizza dough
You can use a rolling pin or your hands to stretch the pizza dough. If you want to act like you are in a pizzeria and toss it in the air, be my guest but I do not have the skills to do that so I stick to using my hands or rolling pin.
Place the ball of pizza dough on a floured surface. Then using your hands or a rolling pin roll and stretch out the dough to form a circle. I try to make mine be a perfect circle, but that rarely happens and that is ok because its shape has nothing to do with the taste!
Once rolled and stretched use your fingers to pinch the edges and make the crust. If you want a thicker crust roll the edges over a bit.
How to Freeze homemade pizza dough
If you want to make homemade pizza dough ahead of time to use for the next time you have pizza night you can easily. If you want to make extra dough so that you have it in the freezer you can double this recipe.
Prepare the pizza dough and let rise per the recipe direction. Form the dough into individual balls, make 6 smaller balls if you want to have personal pizzas, and 2 balls if you want to have the dough for large pizzas.
Lightly coat each ball of pizza dough with olive oil making sure to get all sides coated.
Place the ball of pizza dough into a freezer bag and squeeze out all of the air.
Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
How to Use Frozen Pizza Crust dough
When you are ready to use frozen pizza dough, remove the bag of dough from the freezer and keep in the fridge to defrost for at least 12 hours.
Remove the dough once fully thawed from the fridge and bring to room temperature sitting on the counter for 30 minutes before forming pizza.
Follow normal pizza crust baking directions.

How to Make Homemade Pizza Dough
Pour the water into the bowl of a stand mixer. Sprinkle the yeast on top of the water and let it bloom for 5 minutes.
Add the salt, olive oil, to the bowl and mix well. If you want to add any spices like garlic powder or Italian Seasoning add that in and mix.
Slowly add the flour to the bowl and place the bowl on your mixer with a dough hook attachment.
Mix on low speed until the dough starts to form. Gradually turn the speed to medium until the dough ball forms. If you are using a mixing bowl and a wooden spoon to mix add the flour in little by little mixing after you add it in until all of the flour is mixed in.
If the dough is too sticky you can add a pinch more flour. If the dough is too dry you can add a little bit more water. Knead the dough ball in the mixer for 10 minutes on medium speed. You want the dough to be slightly sticky but manageable in your hands. You will know the dough is done when it is pulling away from the edges of the bowl into a ball of dough shape without you having to push it all together.
Remove the dough from the mixer and divide it in half.
Place the dough balls on a floured surface and cover with a damp towel or your mixing bowl and let the pizza dough rise for an hour. Separate the dough into as many pizzas as you would like. We normally make 2 large homemade pizzas with this recipe.
Roll the dough out to the desired thickness. Sprinkle a small amount of cornmeal onto your pizza stone or pan. Prebake the pizza crust in a 500°F oven for 2 minutes.
Flip the dough over and top with your topping of choice. Bake for 6-8 minutes until golden brown.
