My kids like to call this marshmallow fruit salad. They are totally in love with the fact that I put marshmallows in their fruit salad. I become the cool mom because I am letting them enjoy marshmallows in a salad. I will take the cool mom status, with a teen in the house mom being cool is not always a thought for them. LOL!
Aside from the marshmallows, this is a totally healthy fruit salad recipe. This fruit salad is made with pineapples, mandarin oranges, apples, grapes and greek yogurt…. those are the things that make it healthy! 🙂 Then we add the marshmallows, so I think it balances out perfectly fine and the marshmallows are going to do no one any harm and you get the cool mom status.
Variations when Making Fruit Salad
Use any apples you have. You can use any type of apple that you have on hand to make this recipe. To make life easier I use an apple slicers, that does the coring for me and then I just cut the slices of apples into bite sized pieces. The rest of the fruit is just poured from a can into a bowl and mixed together. So simple!
Skip the marshmallows. Now I guess you could make this fun fruit salad with out the marshmallows, but I don’t suggest doing so. That is what makes it fun!
Add in some coconut flakes if you want to and that gives it a great boost in flavor. However it all depends on my mood if I put the coconut in or not. If you like coconut add it, if you don’t like coconut skip it. Either way you still end up with a tasty fruit salad!
Use different flavored yogurt. I wanted this fruit salad to be on the healthy side so I used vanilla greek yogurt, however if all you have on hand is some of the fruit on the bottom greek yogurt or plain greek yogurt, that would be tasty too! If you are not a fan of greek yogurt you can use other yogurt as well.
