If you are a chocolate lover like myself then this is the perfect easy chocolate dessert for you. The cookie crust with the silky chocolate ganache is perfect! This dessert is so easy, the tart crust has just 2 ingredients and there are just 5 ingredients for the rich chocolate ganache tart filling.
I love making homemade chocolate ganache and it is my favorite part of a Boston Cream Pie and my Boston Cream Pie Parfait Dessert. This chocolate tart has a similar chocolate filling to chocolate ganache but it is made extra silky by adding butter to the ganache mixture giving you a seriously amazing chocolate dessert that is perfect for just because or a special occasion.

Variations of this Chocolate Tart Recipe
The great thing about this easy chocolate dessert is that there are a few different ways that you can change things up. It is perfect as is but you can fancy it up to your liking easily.
Whipped Cream. Just a small amount swirled on top will give it a little extra. You can use homemade whipped cream or store bought.
Caramel Sauce. Make some homemade caramel sauce and drizzle it on top.
Berry Sauce. A drizzle of berry sauce including strawberry or raspberry is the perfect fruit flavor to add.
Fresh Fruit. You can skip making a sauce and just add a few fresh berries, fresh strawberries, fresh blackberries, and fresh raspberries are my favorites berries and I also love adding kiwi. If you want to make things even fancier you can line the edge of the tart with Chocolate Covered Raspberries, Chocolate Covered Cherries, or chocolate covered strawberries.
Add a Sprinkle of Coarse Salt. A VERY small amount of coarse salt sprinkled on top will give the chocolate tart an even bigger pop of flavor.
What is the Best Chocolate to Use for a Chocolate Tart?
I use dark chocolate however if you are not a fan you can use milk chocolate. I highly suggest using a high quality chocolate because chocolate is the star in this recipe and quality chocolate will make all the difference in the flavor. Personally I like using Ghirardelli dark chocolate or Godiva dark chocolate.
Tips For Making this Recipe
Use Quality chocolate. Chocolate is the star of the show here and while you can use any chocolate I find it best to use a high-quality chocolate and stick with Ghiradelli Chocolate. While I used dark chocolate for this chocolate tart, you can use milk chocolate if you are not a fan of dark chocolate. Using a quality chocolate is important because you want the richness of the chocolate in this easy dessert.
Tart Shell. I used Oreo cookies and took out the filling but you can use a premade Oreo Cookie Pie crust if you are short on time. It will just be higher than my tart and you will have more crust above the chocolate ganache filling. Using the Oreo Cookie crust will give you an easy no bake chocolate tart recipe that can be done with very little prep work.
Use any chocolate cookies. If you do not want to go the cookie crust route but do not want to have to worry about taking the cream out of the Oreo Cookies then you can use any chocolate cookie or biscuit.
Don’t skip on cooling time. You need to give the tart enough time to set, you may be ok after the 2 hour mark, but I like to keep mine in the fridge for a full 3 hours.
Making the filling. You can put the filling mixture in the oven for one minute or use a double boiler. If you do not want to use the oven for this part you can use a double boiler and I personally find using a double boiler easier but some might like the oven method instead.
How to Store a Chocolate Tart
Store any left over chocolate tart covered in plastic wrap and in the fridge.
Dark Chocolate Tart Ingredients

- Dark Chocolate
- Heavy Cream
- Granulated White Sugar
- Salt

How to Make Dark Chocolate Tart
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Remove the cream filling from the Oreo Cookies and put the cookies into a food processor. Process until they are fully crushed. Melt 3.5 tablespoons of butter and then add the melted butter to the cookie and give it quick pulse to combine. When held in your hand the crust mixture should hold it’s shape.
Empty the entire cookie butter mixture into a tart pan. Using a rubber spatula press mixture against the sides as well as the bottom to form the pie crust.
Place the chocolate cookie tart crust in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove the chocolate tart crust and let it cool completely. While it is cooling make your chocolate ganache tart filling.
In a bowl add the heavy cream, butter, sugar, and salt and heat it in the oven for 1 minute (or use a double boiler). Add the chopped chocolate and immerse it well in the cream. Let it sit for 5 minutes and then mix well.
Add the chocolate mixture to the prepared tart crust and chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours. Take it out of the fridge 20 mins prior to serving.
