How to Make Fries Crispy in the Oven
I like my fries crispy, however I do not like using the fryer. It is messy and they end up greasy. It also kinda kicks the healthy sweet potato fries thing out the window since I am frying them in oil. Instead I make crispy sweet potato fries by baking them in the oven and they come out perfect!
The trick to making fries crispy when you are making them in the oven is to toss them in cornstarch and then toss the fries in olive oil before baking them. It is important to toss them in the cornstarch first!
You also want to make sure that you are slicing the sweet potato fries are evenly sliced. I have found that the best sizing for getting the perfect crispy sweet potato fries is having them about 1/4 inch thick.
Play fries on a single layer on the baking sheet. Overcrowding the fries will stop them from getting crispy when they are baking as they let off steam when baking.
Instead of using nonstick baking spray you want to line the baking sheets with parchment paper. This keeps the fries from sticking.
How to Cut Sweet Potato
If you are looking for an easy way to cut your homemade sweet potato fries, you can use a fry cutter like this one that you can buy on Amazon.
If you do not have a fry cutter you can just use a sharp knife. If you are using a knife then you will want to cut the sweet potato in half length wise. Then from there cut that half into thin slices, and cut the slices into fry pieces. As always, be careful when you are using a knife.
What to dip Sweet Potato Fries in
If you are looking for a sweet potato fry dipping sauce, you should try this Sriracha Dip Recipe or just dip these sweet potato fries in honey mustard sauce or ketchup!
If you are wanting to add different seasonings to your fries, like ranch seasoning you can toss the fries in dry seasonings after they are done baking. If I am in the mood for a sweeter flavor, then sometimes I toss mine in a little bit of brown sugar! Oh yum!
