Is a granola bar a healthy snack?
Cranberry granola bars are packed with fiber and whole grains. While there is sugar in this recipe, using honey is a better alternative than traditional white sugar or corn syrup like in store bought ones. With no artificial ingredients, these homemade granola bars are a healthy snack idea.
How do you get granola bars to stick together?
The honey and brown sugar combine together to make the glue in these granola bars. In order to make sure the bars stick together, you want to make sure you measure your ingredients. If you over measure the add ins, the flax seed or the oats, there won’t be enough of the wet ingredients to hold the oats together.
How Long Can You Keep Homemade Granola Bars?
When you make homemade granola bars, there isn’t all of those preservatives that boxed bars have. You will need to store the bars in an airtight container. Keep them at room temperature for about a week. After a week the bars will start to taste a little stale.
I recommend placing a piece of wax paper or parchment paper between the layers of the cranberry granola bars so that they do not stick together and are easy to take a bar out at a time.
Can you freeze granola bars?
Freezing granola bars is a great way to make sure that you always have them on hand. Wrap each granola bar with parchment paper and then place them all in an airtight container or in a freezer bag. The bars can be frozen for about 2 months.
When you are ready to use the frozen granola bars, take them out of the freezer and place them on the counter for about 30 minutes. Then they are ready to enjoy.
Are these no bake granola bars?
No, these are not no bake granola bars. These granola bars need to be baked for about 25 minutes. They are soft and chewy and baking them brings together the flavors as well as helps them stay together.
Can I use different nuts
I am using almonds because they work best in the recipes and my kids like the taste. However, you can swap the almonds with other nuts. If you need to make a swap because of allergies, you can also use seeds instead. You can add sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds or chia seeds.
