Colored Tea Bombs with Dried Flowers
We shared the basic tea bomb recipe a few days ago but what makes tea bombs even more fun is coloring them and adding things like flowers. The tea looks beautiful in the glass after it has steeped and makes for the perfect cup of tea.
What is a Tea Bomb?
A tea bomb is the tea version of a hot chocolate bomb. Using Isomalt to make a shell, then the shell is filled with a tea bag, edible flowers, edible confetti and other additions you can totally customize them wiith your favorite flavors and designs onces you know the basics.
How to Make Colored Tea Bombs
Coloring tea bombs makes them even more fun. You can color them any color that you want to, whatever color you make this is the color the tea drink will be.
I have found the best food coloring to use is the gel food coloring.
How to Fill Tea Bombs
You want to fill only one half of the tea bomb with fillings like the tea bag, sugar or other fillings.
When you are making tea bombs with edible flowers you can use any edible flowers you want to and other edible items to fancy them up. Edible luster dust, Edible Rose petals, Edible Confetti and Edible Gold Leaf are great add ins to tea bombs.
Tips and Variations
Use a Silicone mold. Silicone molds are easiest to use, I used this one when making these.
Be CAREFUL when touching the balls and they are hot. When you are putting the 2 balls of Isomalt together to form the ball it will be hot. If you are doing this with kids, this step is one that you want the adult to do not the kids.
Add sweetener. Isomalt is not overly sweet, so you may want to add some sweetener if you prefer a sweet cup of tea. If you like your tea sweet then you will want to add sugar or sugar substitute inside with the bag.
Change up the Tea. You can use any type of tea bag that you want to when making these tea bombs.
How to Use a Tea Bomb
When you’re ready to drink your tea, simply place the tea bomb into a mug, then pour 8 ounces of boiling or hot water over it.
The tea bomb shell will melt and the tea bag will steep and any additions like edible flowers or sweetener will pop out and flavor and decorate it while it seeps in the hot water.

- ¼ cup Isomalt
- 3 Individual Tea Bags
- Food coloring
- 6 tablespoons dried flowers
How to Make Colored Tea Bombs with Dried Flowers
Place isomalt into a glass measuring cup that is heat-safe. Microwave on high in 30 second increments, stirring between each increment until fully melted.
Add about ¼ of the melted isomalt to one spherical mold cavity along with one drop of food coloring, then, using your spoon to press the isomalt up and around the edges of the mold. Repeat with 3 additional molds.
Put the filled molds into the freezer for 5 minutes to harden.
Remove the filled molds from the freezer and gently peel the mold away from the isomalt half-spheres.
Place a tea bag into two of the isomalt half-spheres, leaving the tag of the tea bomb hanging out.
Add 1-2 tablespoons of the dried rose hips to the half-sphere with the tea bag.
Warm a plate in the microwave until it’s hot to the touch, then, turn an empty isomalt half-sphere over and rub the flat edge of the isomalt shape onto the bottom of the plate until it just starts to melt.
Immediately place the slightly melted isomalt half on top of an isomalt half-bomb with a tea bag inside. The two sides of the tea bomb will seal together in just a moment or two when the isomalt cools.
