Apple chips are slices of apples that are baked in an oven at a low temperature or made in a dehydrator, until they dry out. This creates the same crispy texture as regular potato chips, but without all of the calories. Apple Chips Using a Dehydrator are even healthier because freshly squeezed lemon juice is added for flavor and to prevent them from turning brown!

How to select the best apples for Apple Chips recipe
I like using apples from a local orchid or farmer’s market. These apples are the freshest and aren’t trucked in from long distances. This gives the apples the best flavor. When you pick apples, whether it is from the local market or from a grocery store, look for ones with no blemishes or bruises as well as firm skin and are not squishy.

They’re also low in sodium which is a bonus for people with high blood pressure. Since they’re homemade there is nothing added other than the two main ingredients. You can even leave off the lemon if you want! The only salt this recipe has is from the natural juices of the apple.
How to Store Apple
Did you know that dehydrated fruit can last for up to 10 years. Although, in my house, it never lasts that long. You will want to store the apples in an airtight container, like a plaster container with a lid or a freezer bag.
How much dehydrated apples will I get from fresh apples?
If you store the dehydrated apples in a mason jar, 5 pounds of apples will come out to about 2 quart sized jars worth.
How to add flavor to the apples
I love eating plain apple chips because they’re crunchy and have such a great taste. You can also try adding cinnamon or different types of toppings to your apples before putting them in the dehydrator. My favorite is sprinkling the chips with some brown sugar when they are done. This reminds me of caramel apples. You can also add cinnamon to the top of the apples which makes them taste like apple pie. You can also add pumpkin pie spice or ginger.
What if I over dry my dehydrated apples?
If you over dry your apples, don’t worry they still taste good. If the chips came out too hard or crunchy for your liking then just add a small amount of water to them in a bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds – 1 minute.
Do I need to peel the apples
Apples can be dried with the peels on or without. It all depends if you like the peels. The peels add flavor, fiber and texture, although some people do not like that.
