Apple betty is an easy-to-make sweet apple dessert that has fresh apples and topped with a sweet crumb topping and then baked in the oven. Sometimes this recipe is referred to as Brown Betty or Apple Brown betty.
Apple Betty Recipe
You all are in for a great treat! This apple betty recipe I can not take credit for, all the credit goes to my mother-in-law. However, once I tried it I knew I had to get the recipe from her and share it with all of you. I still remember the first time I had this and I was hooked! Now anytime a friend of mine tells me they have never had Apple Betty I make this apple betty recipe for them.
This easy apple dessert is one of my absolute favorites. I make it often in the summer and the fall because it is so easy to make. I also consider it a healthier dessert compared to many that we make. It is such an easy dessert to make. Just slice the apples, make the topping, put it all together in a baking dish and then bake. It really doesn’t get much easier then this sweet apple dessert.
While many may consider this a fall dessert because that is when apple picking is going on and it is the best time to get in season apples we enjoy it all year long. During the summer months, I like to put a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and sometimes a little drizzle of caramel sauce when eating this easy apple betty recipe. Yum!
We do a lot of apple picking in the fall and make apple everything we can and this apple betty is one of the first things the kids ask me to make. If you are looking for more apple recipes, check out some of our favorites.

What is the difference between Apple Crisp and Apple Betty?
An Apple Betty has a topping made of flour, butter and brown sugar while the topping of an apple crisp has oats. Both are easy desserts to make, and we love both of them. If you are looking for an easy apple crisp dessert be sure to check out our Apple crisp recipe.
Tips for Making Apple Betty
Use Fresh apples. You can use just about any type of apple but my favorites are golden delicious, Granny Smith, Fiji, and Honeycrisp. If you want to change things up and use a few different types of apples you can do that too.
Room Temperature butter. You don’t want it melted, you want it to still be solid so that it forms the crumble when mixed with the flour and brown sugar.
Grease the baking dish. It is important to spray your baking dish with nonstick spray so it doesn’t stick when baking.
Do I need to peel the apples?
I prefer no apple peels in my apple betty dessert, but you can skip peeling them if you want to. Both peeled or non peeled apples will work and give you a tasty dessert.
