If your mozzarella sticks burned or become overcooked it will be because of the difference in cooking time and your air fryer model. This can also happen if your air fryer is preheated to much before getting started. To ensure that your next batch of mozzarella sticks is cooked perfectly, we recommend reducing the cooking time by 1-2 minutes and then checking the cheese sticks for doneness. If they are not yet fully cooked to your liking, simply add an additional minute of air frying time and continue checking until they reach your preferred level of doneness.
Tips for Cooking Air Fried Frozen Mozzarella Sticks
Do not defrost them. You want them to be solidly frozen when you put them in the air fryer.
Single layer. Only cook the store-bought mozzarella sticks in a single layer, do not stack them or they will not cook thoroughly.
Preheat your air fryer. Preheating your air fryer before cooking the corn dogs will ensure that they cook evenly and become crispy.
Read your instructions. Some air fryers will require you to use cooking spray when you are using them, others don’t so be sure to check the specific directions for yours.
Don’t overcrowd the basket. Make sure to arrange the frozen cheese sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving enough space between them to allow for proper air circulation. This will help them cook evenly and avoid sticking together. If you have a smaller air fryer then you may have to cook them in smaller batches for best results.
Flip halfway through cooking. Flipping the mozzarella sticks over halfway through the cooking time will ensure that they cook evenly on all sides and become crispy. While you don’t have to you will get better results.
Serve immediately. Crispy Mozzarella sticks are best served hot and fresh out of the air fryer.
