Roasting peppers is super easy and makes peppers taste amazing. Follow these easy step by step directions for how to roast peppers and you will be enjoying fresh roasted peppers in no time!
If you find yourself with an over abundance of peppers that you do not want to go to waste this is the perfect way to save them for later.
There are also lots of tasty recipes that use peppers that have been roasted, as they have an amazing flavor.
How to Roast Peppers
Roasting peppers is such an easy thing to do! I used to buy them all the time in a jar all ready made until I found out how easy they are to make myself. Seriously it is so easy! Plus it is quick too! The perfect combo for me in a busy house.
I also find that it is much cheaper to make them myself then paying for them in the store. I can grab bundles of peppers for around $4 at the farmer’s market and get the same amount of peppers I would get in 4-5 jars at the store.
They also taste so much better roasted at home, then the ones that have been sitting in a jar in the store. I don’t think I have to tell you that though, it is no secret that things made at home are always better then things filled with preservatives that you buy in the store.

How to Freeze Roasted Peppers
Once you have roasted and peeled the peppers let them cool completely to room temperature. If you are going to store them in halves cut the peppers in half. If you want to freeze them in slices, slice them.
Place the peppers on a baking sheet and put them in the freezer for 1-2 hours. When they are completely frozen put the pepper into freezer bags and seal them tightly squeezing out the air.
Be sure to date and label your peppers before putting them in the freezer. Once the peppers are prepped for the freezer put them in the freezer. Peppers will keep in the freezer for up to 12 months.
How to Store Roasted Peppers
You can store them in an air tight container in the fridge or in the freezer.
How to Use Roasted Peppers
Use just as you would jarred roasted peppers that you get in the store. They work great for sandwiches, pasta salads and more! I love using them to make Roasted Red Pepper & Mushroom Grilled Cheese and Roasted Red Pepper Pasta Salad.

Roast Peppers Step by Step Directions
Turn the oven on to broil on high. Rinse and dry your peppers.
Place the peppers on a roasting pan or baking sheet and place in the oven. Cook for 10 minutes and then flip the peppers over and cook for another 10 minutes. This way both sides of the peppers skins char.
Remove the peppers from the oven.
Place the pepper into either a paper or ziplock bag and seal for ten minutes. You will want to use thongs to touch the peppers because they will be hot.
Once the peppers have sat for 10 minutes remove them from the bag.
Remove the peppers from the bag and place on a cutting board. Use your fingers to peel the skins off of the peppers. The skins should just peel right off.
Next remove the steam and all of the seeds. You can rinse under running water if needed. I find it easiest to just pull the stem off from the top and most of the seeds come out with it.
Once all of the peppers have had their skins, seeds and stems removed, slice into strips or chucks depending on what size you are wanting them.
Let them cool completely to room temperature and store in an air tight container in the refrigerator or freeze them.
