Easter Bunny Donuts
Okay, how CUTE are these Easter Bunny donuts?! Absolutely adorable, right? I’m actually pretty proud of myself for coming up with these.
Before we dive in – do you consider donuts to be breakfast or dessert? Or both? I say both, depending on the occasion. Something fancy and loaded with extra candy like these Easter Bunny donuts definitely falls into dessert territory for me! Though the kids could possibly convince me to let it slide as a special Easter breakfast.
As anyone who reads this blog knows, I LOVE holidays. All of them, even the minor ones. I love getting my family excited about them and doing special activities with them.
If those special activities include food, even better for all of us!
Easter is one of my favorite holidays because I can usually get away with celebrating it for a few weeks leading up to it, which means more time for family activities and recipes.
We spend time decorating making DIY Easter egg garland, Temporary Tattoo Easter Eggs, Shaving Cream Egg Dye and DIY Easter Egg Wreaths.
Breakfasts tend to include Cinnabunnies
We also make lots of fun Easter treats including Easter Bunny Cake, Easter Dirt Cups, and
And, of course, these Easter Bunny Donuts are always a must make for Easter celebrating!
These Easter donuts are a combination of a craft and a recipe – really, there’s no baking or cooking involved but just assembling all of the ingredients to design your own Easter bunny.
It was a hit with my kids! We prepared all of the ingredients and then everyone had a blast building their own Easter Bunny!
These donuts may become a new Easter breakfast tradition, where we assemble them the night before to enjoy as Easter breakfast in the morning. What better day to begin with a sugar rush than a holiday?!
Can I use regular size donuts to make these Easter Bunny Donuts?
Of course – I chose mini donuts as these are definitely a sweet treat but feel free to upsize. You may need to adjust the other ingredients as well!
You can also use homemade donuts if you want to. However I wanted to make these Easter donuts as fun and EASY as possible so I stuck with the store bought donuts.
What variations can I make to these Easter Bunny Donuts?
Get creative! Use whatever candy you have on hand – this is actually a fun way to use up leftover Easter candy! My kids enjoyed getting a little creative in their assembly of this Easter breakfast.
You can use different flavored donuts if you want to. I like making them with the powdered sugar donuts but you can also use the glazed mini donuts, and chocolate mini donuts.
Easter Bunny Donut Ingredients
- Mini Donuts. You can use powdered sugar mini donuts or glazed mini donuts.
- Red or Pink Mike & Ikes. You will need 1 Mike and Ike for each donut bunny you are making.
- Pink Starbursts. You will need 1 starburst for every 3 donuts. Red and bright pink starburst will also work for making bunny donuts, they will be used for the bunny ears.
- White Melting Chips. You will need 1/4 cup white chocolate chips for every 3 donuts.
- Edible Easter Grass or toasted coconut died green. You will need 2 pieces of coconut or candy Easter grass for each bunny.
- Large Marshmallows. You will need 1 large marshmallow for every 3 donuts you are making.
- Mini Marshmallows. You will need 1 mini marshmallow for every bunny you are making.
- Mini Chocolate Chips. You will need 2 mini chocolate chips for each bunny.
How To Make Easter Bunny Donuts
Start out by flattening the starbursts.
Then cut each starburst into 4 equal pieces. Then cut each piece in half to make the pink inner part of the ears.
Using kitchen scissors cut each marshmallow in to rectangles so you have bunny ears.
Place a piece of starbursts on each of the marshmallows. The stickiness of the marshmallow will hold the starburst on it.
Then cut each mini marshmallow in half to form the bunny cheeks.
Place 1 red Mike and Ike in the middle of the donut.
Melt the white chocolate until it is smooth. I suggest using a double boiler to melt chocolate as I find it to be much easier.
Use the white chocolate to glue 2 pieces of easter grass (or coconut which ever you are using) under nose to make whiskers.
Then “Glue” cheeks under nose and on top of whiskers and the mini chocolate chips pointy side down as the eyes.
Dip the ends of the marshmallow ears into the melted white chocolate and then position as ears at the top of the donut.
Let the chocolate set and Enjoy!
