Tips For Making Crinkle Cookies
Don’t press the dough balls down. When you bake this chocolate crinkle cookies recipe the cookies will flatten while the cookies bake.
Do not overbake. You do not want to wait until the cookies are brown before removing from the oven. The cookies will be soft when they are done baking. If they are brown, the cookies are overbaked. The cookies will come out soft and will set as they cool.
Uniform cookies. Make sure the cookies are the same size and shape for easier baking. I like to use a cookie scoop.

How to make Chocolate Crackle Cookies
Preheat the oven to 350˚ F.
Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats and set aside.
In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large bowl if you are using a hand electric mixer, add the butter and sugar.
On medium speed beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, 2-3 minutes.
Add in the eggs one at a time, scraping down the bowl as needed.
Once the eggs are mixed in add the cocoa powder and mix until blended.
Add the rest of the dry ingredients; flour, salt, and baking powder to the mixing bowl and mix at low speed just until incorporated.
Scoop out a tablespoon of chocolate crinkle cookie dough using a cookie scoop and using your hands shape dough it into 1-inch balls.
Pour the powdered sugar onto a plate and roll the ball into the powdered sugar.
Place the cookie dough ball on a cookie sheet. Repeat until all of the chocolate crinkles cookie dough is used up and all of the cookies are on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake for 12-16 minutes, depending on your oven. Check them at the 12-minute mark to see if they are done. The cookies will spread out and develop cracks on the surface as they bake. You will know the cookies are done baking when the centers are puffed out and cracked, but also still look a bit wet in the middle.
Let cool on the baking sheets for 5-10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
FAQ
What is the difference between Powdered sugar and confectioner’s sugar?
Powdered sugar and confectioners’ sugar are the same thing! They’re two different names for the same fine, powdered form of sugar. It’s commonly used in baking, frosting, and confectionery. This sugar is finely ground until it becomes a powder, and often has a small amount of added cornstarch to prevent clumping. So, whether you call it powdered sugar or confectioner’s sugar, you’re referring to the same sweet ingredient!
How to Tell When the Cake Mix Cookies are Done
You want to make sure you are baking the perfect cake mix cookies for about 12 minutes. The baking time will vary depending on your oven so keep an eye on them after the 10 mins of cooking time. When you look at the cookies, they will seem soft. The centers are soft set and a little gooey. So do not wait until the cookies are browned to remove them from the oven. The cookies will be burned.
Do I need to use a stand mixer?
I personally prefer to use a stand mixer when baking. If you do not have one you can use a large mixing bowl, whisks and spoons to stir the cookie batter.
Can I make the cookie dough ahead of time?
Yes! You can store the chocolate cookie dough in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours, making this recipe a great choice for preparing in advance.
