Do I Have to Make It in the Slow Cooker
You might be thinking can I make this crockpot candy in the microwave. Technically you do not need to make it in the crockpot but it does make it easier. If you try to make it in the microwave you are going to have to watch all of the chocolate and almond bark very carefully. Making this candy in the slow cooker means that everything melts together evenly and without any effort. Using the crockpot takes the effort out of the candy making process.
Can Crockpot Candy Be Frozen?
When you are storing the Christmas crockpot candy it will last for up to 3 weeks on the counter or in the refrigerator when it is stored in an airtight container.
If you want to freeze the slow cooker candy, it freezes beautifully. Make sure the candy is completely set before moving it to airtight container or freezer bag. When it is in the freezer, it will last for up to 18 months.
When you are ready to thaw the candy, place it on the counter or in the refrigerator until it is thawed. Then serve and enjoy.
Tips and Tricks for Making Crockpot Candy
Don’t skip the almond bark. It might seem like you wouldn’t put white chocolate almond bark in the recipe when it is chocolate candy but you need it for flavor and to help the candy harden and set.
Place a clean, dry towel over the top of the slow cooker. Place the lid on top to secure it in place. As the candy cooks, there is water condensation that happens on the top of the lid. You don’t want water in your melted chocolate as it drips off the lid. Placing the towel over top helps to catch the water drops.
Variations of this Recipe
Change up the Chocolate. I like using almond bark and semi sweet chocolate chips. You can use any chocolate chips, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate. If you really want to change things up butterscotch chips and peanut butter chips can be used, too. For a really tasty combination, you can use chocolate chips and peanut butter chips.
Swap nuts. I am using peanuts but that doesn’t mean that you can’t try a different nut. Almonds and pecans are delicious choices but you can also use walnuts. Cashews are another option. Any type of nut that you enjoy eating would work with the chocolate. You can add in different nuts, fruit like raisins, different sprinkles, or even different types of chocolate chips.
Add Marshmallows. You could even stir in mini marshmallows. I do suggest for best results that you add them into the cupcake liner when you are pouring the chocolate in.
Christmas Crock Pot Candy Ingredients
- white chocolate almond bark. You can also use chocolate almond bark.
- semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can also use different types of chips including milk chocolate chips if you want to.
- dry roasted peanuts. I like how dry roasted peanuts taste, but you can also use salted peanuts, unsalted peanuts, or a different nut if you want to.
- Holiday sprinkles. Most of the time I make this recipe when we are making our holiday cookie trays so I want them to be Christmas themed, but you can change them up and use any festive sprinkles to match any holiday that you want to when making this slow cooker chocolate candy recipe.
How to Make Crockpot Candy
Place your white almond bark, the peanuts, and the semi-sweet chocolate chips into your slow cooker.
Lay a clean kitchen towel on top of the slow cooker.
Put the lid on the slow cooker.
Turn the slow cooker on low heat.
Cook for 1 hour then stir.
Place the towel back on, put the lid back on and then stir every 20 minutes until the chocolate is completely melted. I find it best to use a silicone spatula.
Once the chocolate is ready to go, place the baking cups in the muffin tray.
Using a cookie scoop or a wooden spoon with a dip, scoop the chocolate into the baking cups. Fill them the cups as little or as full as you would like. Then top with sprinkles.
Set the muffin trays either in your fridge or in a cool area (like the garage) to allow the chocolate to completely cool and set.
Once the chocolate has set, remove the candies from the muffin tray and paper liners if you prefer.
