What are Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are small, black seeds that come from the plant Salvia hispanica, which is a member of the mint family. They’re native to Mexico and Guatemala, and they’ve been used for centuries as a food source.
Chia seeds are an excellent source of nutrients. They’re high in fiber, protein, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids. They also contain a number of antioxidants.
It is important to use fresh chia seeds in this recipe.
Health Benefits of Chia Seeds
Chia seeds offer a number of health benefits. The high fiber content helps to keep you regular and prevents constipation. The protein and omega-3 fatty acids help to keep you feeling full and satisfied throughout the day. And the antioxidants help to protect your body against disease and inflammation.
What type of Milk to use
I am using almond milk to make the chia seed pudding recipe. However, you can use whatever kind of milk you like. You can use coconut milk, cow’s milk, almond milk or any other milk that you prefer.
Is Banana Chia Seed Pudding Vegan?
This pudding is made with almond milk, however, there is also honey in it. Honey is not considered vegan so if you want to make this vegan you will need to change the sweetener to maple syrup or agave.
Can I make Banana Chia Seed Pudding ahead?
Yes, this pudding is the perfect make-ahead breakfast or snack. Simply prepare the pudding and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. When you’re ready to eat, simply grab your breakfast and enjoy! If you are not a fan of the chia texture, then making it the night before and letting it sit in the fridge will give you a thick and smooth texture later.

Add nuts and seeds. You can add more nuts on top, almonds, peanuts, walnuts, and pecans are great options. Roasted pumpkin seeds are also a great option to add on top.
Variations of this recipe
- Make it chocolate. Add cocoa powder and mix it in well for chocolate banana pudding.
- Add peanut butter. Peanut butter and banana are the perfect combinations. Add about 2 tablespoons of peanut butter to the pudding.
- Coconut. Use coconut milk instead of almond milk and then add some shredded coconut to the top of the pudding.
- Make it fancy. You can layer sliced bananas in the bowl or the mason jar you are serving the chia pudding in.
Tips for Making this recipe
Use ripe bananas. You do not want to use bananas that are overripe and mushy, you want to be able to mash them without them being overly ripe. You can use a fork to mash them but I find a potato masher does even better.
Store in Mason jars. To make things easier for grab and go in the mornings store the chai pudding in mason jars.
Use real honey. This recipe is best made with real honey.
Swap honey for maple syrup. If you do not have any honey then you can use maple syrup instead.
