The perfect Valentine’s Day treat to make for the kids to get the day started are these Heart Shaped Strawberry White Hot Chocolate Bombs. While these heart shaped hot chocolate bombs are perfect for anytime I made them with the sole thought of Valentine’s Day.
This year I have plans to go all out for Valentine’s Day. I am going to start us with Strawberry waffles, heart bacon, fruit love bugs and these strawberry hot chocolate bombs. For lunch I am making Valentine’s Day sandwiches, chocolate covered raspberries and chocolate covered strawberries. Dinner is either going to be heart shaped pizza or heart shaped quesadillas (I haven’t picked which one yet.)
Yes I am going a little over board this year, but we are all in the mood for some fun and there is not a better day to do it then Valentine’s Day which is coming up quickly.
Tips for Making Hot Chocolate Bombs
I have included a video on how to make hot chocolate bombs in this post as well, so you can see it visually to help you with making them. It is helpful to watch the video to see how to make them.
Use Silicon molds. The metal molds work fine if you are making sphere shaped hot chocolate bombs, but when you are making other shapes like heart shaped hot chocolate bombs you want to use a Silicone heart mold.
Make sure the chocolate is melted thoroughly. You want to make sure the chocolate is smoothly melted before you use it in the chocolate molds. You can microwave per the directions on the package or melt the chocolate with a double boiler.
Allow chocolate to harden fully. While you might be impatient like myself, when you are placing the chocolate in the freezer to harden back up it is important. You need to let it fully harden or you will have issues removing it from the molds, and you will have issues with the chocolate bombs falling apart.
What Chocolate is best for Chocolate bombs?
I like using chocolate melts when making chocolate bombs because I do not have too worry about the temperature of the chocolate, I just melt it and make them.
How to Make Hot chocolate with Hot Chocolate Bombs
To use the hot cocoa bombs, place them in a mug and pour 2 cups hot milk over the top. Stir until the hot cocoa bombs are completely melted and enjoy!
Supplies needed
- Silicone heart mold
- mixing bowl
- measuring cup
- measuring spoon
Ingredients
- White Chocolate Candy Melts
- Strawberry Powdered Milk Mix
- Marshmallows. I used Smashmallows Sugar Cookie marshmallows but you can also use regular marshmallows or strawberry marshmallows.
- Pink Sanding Sugar, you can also make your own colored sugar if you want to.
How to Make Heart Shaped Hot Strawberry White hot Chocolate Bombs
Place white candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave per the directions on the package.
Place 2 tablespoons melted white candy melt into one half of a bomb mold and, using the bottom of your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the chocolate up the sides of the mold, keeping it thick but even. Repeat for a total of 8 white hot chocolate bomb mold halves.
Place the chocolate filled molds into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Remove molds from the freezer and gently peel away the silicon mold from the chocolate.
Fill the half of the chocolate heart cups with 2 tablespoons strawberry powdered milk mix and marshmallows.
Heat a plate or a flat-bottom bowl in the microwave until the surface of the plate is warm to the touch.
Press one of the empty bomb halves open-side-down onto the flat portion of the warm plate for about 10 seconds. This will gently melt the rim of the chocolate cup.
Immediately press this warmed edge chocolate cup to the top of one of the filled hearts. This will join the two halves of the hot cocoa bomb.
Using a piping bag or a fork, pipe a dollop of white candy melts on one corner of the hot cocoa bombs, immediately followed by sprinkling with the pink sparkling sugar.
Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them to set, then remove and store in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.

- 1/2 cups Strawberry Powdered Milk Mix
- 1 cup Sugar Cookie Marshmallows Regular marshmallows or Strawberry marshmallows will work too
- 3 tablespoons Pink Sparkling Sugar
Instructions
- Place white candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave per the directions on the package.
