5 Reasons to Bring the Grandparents on a Family Vacation to Disney World

Disney World is the perfect place to include grandparents on a family vacation because it has something for everyone. There are rides, shows, and attractions that are perfect for all ages.

Including your parents or in-laws on a family vacation to Disney World is a great way to make them feel special. It is also a great way to make memories with the whole family & increasing bonding between grandparents and grandchildren.

Here are 5 reasons to bring the grandparents with on a family vacation to Disney World!

The first time we went to Disney World in 2013 my mom came with us, my dad had to work and so my mom opted to come herself with us. Last year in 2015 both of my parents were able to come with us and it was even more magical then when it was just my mom that came with us. I feel like the part of the trip that my parents were there with us was more magical then the few days we were there without them.

5 Reasons to Bring the Grandparents with you to Disney World

1. They get to see their grandchildren experience the magic of Disney.

It is a different magic than when they brought their own kids. When they brought their own kids they had responsibilities to the kids. With the grandparent role they can do the spoiling that all grandparents get to do with out the worry of responsibility if the kids ate too much sugar during the day.

Yes, as the parents Tom and I had that fun at night (which wasn’t to bad because the kids were all exhausted anyway), but I could see the excitement on my parent’s face when they watched the kids see the magic of Disney and when they were able to spoil them with a little treat here and there.

2. Grandparents share stories of when they went in the past and that brings even more magic.

Hearing my kids listen to my parents talk about past trips and what they love about Disney made it even more exciting for my kids. Like the Carousel of progress is a ride that is mainly geared for the older people visiting Disney, however my kids LOVED it and they loved hearing my dad tell them about how is was once at the World’s Fair in NYC. The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever when listening to my dad about it.

3.The kids get to make memories with their Grandparents.

I am a BIG fan of kids having a good relationship with their Grandparents. I had an awesome relationship with all of mine and it is important to me that my kids have a good relationship with my parents. Unfortunately them having a relationship with Toms parents is not possible because of family issues, so the relationship they have with my parents is even more important to me.

The memories kids make with grandparents are amazing. I remember the trips that my grandparents came with us on and while I loved the ones that my parents took us on alone, there was just something even more special when my grandparents were there to.

4. The Grandparents get to experience the magic with their adult kids and adult kids get to with their parents. 

When we went places as kids I know it was very busy for my parents, and while they enjoyed it is was tiresome. Now that I am an adult experiencing the magic with my parents is different. I can listen to my parents tell me (and my kids) about things I did when we went when I was a kid.

My mom tells us stories about the outfits she made us all wear so we were matching, how things have changed since they took us as kids. And as an adult I love being able to hear the stories of when I was younger. I also love being able to see my parents enjoy their time at the Disney Parks.

As a kid I was focused on what I wanted because well I was a kid and that is what kids do. However as an adult it makes me smile when I see my parents laughing, smiling and enjoying Disney. Something I didn’t see as a kid.

I LOVE this photo of my Dad with the Storm Troopers – he argued a bit with me about taking it because we were at Disney “for the kids” But really Disney brings out the kid in everyone no matter their age and this photo of him shows that so well!

5. Family bonding.

When you are at home dinner together, or a house visit is fun. However adding the Disney magic to the family bonding is incredible. You can escape the rest of life for a bit and just enjoy spending time with each other, enjoy making memories and live in the moment. That is something that is hard to do when you are at home and in the “real world”.

You learn a lot about each other, and can bond as people and as a family. We have some of the BEST family photos that we have ever taken with my parents, from our trip to Disney World. Everyone is always happy, smiling and enjoying each other in this magical place!
