Homemade shaving cream is easy to make with just 2 ingredients. You can whip up a batch of homemade shaving cream in 5 minutes and not only does it save you money but it makes shaving so much better!
Vanilla Coconut Shaving Cream
I hate normal shaving cream that comes out looking like it’s as soft as whipped cream. It always dries out my skin and I still even up with razor burn.
My sister swears by shaving with coconut oil and uses it right out of the container. I tried it out but it was just so hard out of the container and it was no better then using the normal shaving cream.
When you whip coconut oil the structure of the coconut oil changes and you get an amazing creamy shaving cream that is perfect for shaving!

Shaving Cream Made with Essential Oils
Now if you are wanting something different then Vanilla in your shaving cream use essential oils. You can change up the scent that you are making just buy switching out the vanilla for an essential oil, and you only need a few drops. Some of my favorite oils to use when I want a change from Vanilla are, orange, grapefruit, and lavender.
How to Clean a Razor when Using homemade shaving Cream
I did run into the problem with my razor getting all gunked up with the coconut oil. But that is a small problem, just put the razor in a glass with some hot water and a few drops of dawn dish soap for a little bit, then remove the razor and let it air dry and the coconut oil gunk will be off the razor blades.
How to Use Homemade Shaving Cream
At the end of your shower apply your coconut cream on your body and shave as per normal.
You can wipe your razor on a damp wash cloth or rinse in a small bowl of hot water with a teaspoon of dish soap in it.
Homemade Shaving Cream Ingredients
- 1 cup coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or any essential oil you want to use.
How to Make Homemade Shaving Cream
If you do not have a stand mixer then you can use a hand mixer, I however personally love my kitchen aid mixer! You will want to use bowls that do not slip when you are mixing, These with the rubber bottoms are my favorite bowls.
In a large mixing bowl or the mixing bowl of your stand mixer, whip the coconut oil on high for 5 minutes. Add the vanilla extract or the essential oils to the coconut and whip until well combined.
Place the mixture into a airtight container.

Hello I am new to the game I have some questions and if someone can even email me so how long does this cream will last in a jar for shaving

You will know by the smell just like any other food. Throw out when it starts to smell stale or rancid…. It could be a year or more in a cool climate or as little as 4-5 months in hot. Research the benefits of cold pressed organic or spray free coconut oil and it won’t have a chance to go rancid….. It’s a fantastic healthy product full of healthy fats.

I oil pull everyday with coconut oil. And read once to never let the oil go down the drain (because of it hardening and possibly clogging the drain) have you had issues with your drain at all using this? Cause I would LOVE to try this instead of shaving lotion

I have not had any problem I wipe the blade on a wash cloth.

This looks great! I don’t have a mixer (even a hand one) – could I whip this in a blender? I have a smoothie-maker blender, immersion/stick blender, or a food processor… :-/
Stephanie says
Yes you can.
Grace says
can you do this with without a shower for a quick on the go or using the sink to add a little wetness to your legs if you’re on a time crunch? Thank you in advanced. Also I saw some of the comments saying would it would melting in a warmer to a liquid would work as long as you’re fast about it or just for touch ups? Since it would be in liquid form? If anyone has tried to either or has further info please let me know I would love to try all ways!
Tamela says
Can I use shea butter or any other oils for this shaving cream?
Stephanie says
I haven’t tried any other types of fats, let me know if you try it and how it turns out.
Misty says
I’d be nervous that over time coconut oil would clog your drains.
