Tips for Making Chocolate Covered Pretzels
Use Chocolate melts. Most of the time when I am wanting to make a chocolate treat I say to use chocolate, however for these you want to use chocolate melts. If you are wanting them to be different colors the best way is to get the precolored melting chocolate instead of trying to use food coloring and white chocolate melts. You can do that but I find it makes it harder when melting.
Use a tall glass. Dipping long pretzel rods is much easier with a tall drinking glass then using a bowl.
Melt the chocolate in a tall glass. Use a tall glass when melting the chocolate melts and the shortening together so you are able to easily coat the whole pretzel rod with the chocolate.
If you do not want to melt the chocolate in the microwave, you can use a double boiler. After melting the chocolate melts and shortening pour the melted chocolate into a tall glass.
Dip while the chocolate is still warm. To get the most sanding sugar on the bottom of the marshmallows you want to dip them in the sanding sugar as soon as you have dipped them in the chocolate.
How to Store Chocolate Covered Pretzels
After the chocolate has hardened, store them in an air tight container, they will keep at room temperature for up to 2 weeks at room temperature.
