Most every parent experiences the toy explosion at one point or another. This is that moment when you realize that the toys are literally spilling over into all areas of the room and can’t possible be contained by a single toy box. Organizing kids toys seems impossible only because of the sheer volume that has accumulated. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to deal with such toy clutter and these tips on how to Organize kids toys will help relieve your stress.
Organizing Kids Toys
Here are several tips for organizing kids toys that will help you get it under control in no time flat:
Make Sure You Purge First
Purging your kids toys is the single best thing you can do to get them organized. There are many ways to do this, but the best way is to have your kids do it. Have them fill up a large plastic container to take to Goodwill. Then allow your kids to actually donate the toys themselves. They will gain an appreciation for giving and help clear the clutter at the same time.
Transform a Bookcase into a Toy Organizer
Now that you have the toys minimized, it is important to find new and unique ways of storing what is left. You can find these little bookcases at discount chains or even a yard sale and make them into a wonderful toy container. Make it into a little storage center by storing books as well as blocks, Legos, action figures and various other small items that don’t store well in a toy box. Put the smaller pieces in plastic bins (smaller) and place them on the bookshelf neatly.
Use Rollaway Storage
The space under the bed is a freebie in most kids rooms so fill it up with slideaway storage. This is a wonderful place to put out of season clothes leaving more closet space for toys. It also fills up the space under the bed preventing your kids from throwing things under there that don’t belong.
Use a Hanging Shoe Organizer
Those shoe organizers that can hang from a hanger or on the back of the door are wonderful to use for toys. You can put everything from stuffed animals to dolls in them and keep them up and away from the closet floor.
Use Crates for Book Storage
Crates are wonderful for those awkward sized books and toys that you can’t seem to find a place for. They are stackable as well and can easily convert to whatever you need.
Give Your Kids Good Options
The best way to keep your kids on track with their toys is to give them good options to put them away. Every single toy in their room needs to have a clear place that is actually viable. Stuffing things into a toy box is not going to get you all the results you are hoping for if only because no two “stuffings” are going to fit the same way. What fit the first time might not fit the second time.
Organizing your kids toys is not a complicated process but keeping them that way is. By using some of the strategies outlined above, you can at least give yourself a fighting chance.
