Ok so I might be a little “extra” here, but I love making these and then having the kids put them in their hot chocolate. I don’t make them every time we have hot chocolate, but for a special night like when our Elf on the shelf arrives or Christmas Eve these are perfect for making things extra special.
If you are going to put these marshmallow hot chocolate cups into your hot chocolate I recommend making homemade hot chocolate. It is so much better then the packages!

Tips for Making Hot Chocolate Marshmallow Cups
Use a Double Boiler. Melting chocolate is so much easier when you use a double boiler instead of the microwave. You also will not burn your chocolate and end up with a hard chocolate mess like can happen when you melt chocolate in the microwave. If you have never used a double boiler, check out how to melt chocolate with a double boiler.
Use quality melting chocolate. Not only will it taste better but it will also be much easier to work with.
Use Large Marshmallows. You can use homemade marshmallows if you want to, but if you are using store bought you want the larger ones, not the campfire size and not the mini ones.
Marshmallow Hot Cocoa Cups Ingredients
- Marshmallows
- Mini candy canes
- Dark chocolate melting candy
- White chocolate melting candy
- Mallow Bits Marshmallows or white sprinkles
How to Make Hot Chocolate Marshmallow Cups
Melt your white and dark chocolate in two separate bowls. The best way to melt chocolate is with a double boiler.
Break about a inch off the long side of your mini candy cane so both sides are the same length.
Dip the ends of the candy cane into the white chocolate than place it in the side of the marshmallow. Spoon some dark chocolate onto the top of the marshmallow.
Place your bits marshmallows or sprinkle on top of the dark chocolate.
Allow the chocolate to harden completely. Use on a hot cocoa tray or in your hot chocolate.

- 1/4 cup White chocolate melting candy
