Tip for Making Homemade Oatmeal
Keep Stirring. Make sure you keep stirring the oatmeal to prevent it from sticking to the bottom and burning.
Use Old Fashioned Oats. You are going to want to have old fashion oats on hand to make this recipe. I like to buy a big bag of them so I can make all the oatmeal that I want to. My favorite brand to use is Bob’s Red Mill Old Fashioned Regular Rolled Oats, you can use your favorite but I find the Bob’s Red Mill brand the favorite of mine. I buy the box on Amazon that has 4 of the BIG bags in it and it lasts us for quite a while.
Use Real Maple Syrup. You do not want to use the fake stuff, you want the real maple syrup flavor and it taste much better with the real stuff.
Use your preferred milk. While milk is optional when you are serving it, You can use whole milk, 2% milk, 1% milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. If you like a thicker oatmeal you can skip the milk at the end.
Keep the liquid to oats ratio. For every cup of old fashioned oats you need 2 cups of liquid.
How to Serve Homemade Oatmeal
After the oatmeal is done cooking I put it into bowls and add a little bit of milk. This is optional and you can add more milk if you like your oatmeal thinner.
You can serve it with a splash of milk and and extra drizzle of syrup if you would like.
