Homemade or Store Bought Pizza sauce?
If I am running short on time then I make this Christmas Pizza with store bought pizza sauce and store bought pizza crust. If I have time then I make some homemade pizza sauce and my favorite pizza crust.
Feel free to adjust the amount of sauce and the amount of mozzarella cheese you use to fit your preferences. We love a saucy pizza with lots of cheese!
Candy Cane Pizza Ingredients
- 2 Pizza dough crusts
- 4 cups Mozzarella cheese
- 2 Tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup Corn meal
- 20-24 pieces of Pepperoni
- 1 tablespoon Dried Basil
- Salt
- Pepper
Pizza Crust Ingredients
- 9 to 11 ounces warm water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
Candy Cane Pizza Directions
Preheat it the oven to 500 degrees.
Pour the water into the bowl of your mixer. Sprinkle the yeast on top of the water and let it bloom for 5 minutes.
Add in the remainder of the pizza crust ingredients. And place your dough hook on the stand mixer.
Mix all ingredients on low speed until the dough starts to form. Gradually turn the speed to medium until a ball forms.
If the dough is to sticky you can add a pinch more flour. If the dough is to dry you can add a little bit more water.
Knead in the mixer for 10 minutes on medium speed.
Remove the dough from the mixer and divide it in half.
Place pizza crust dough on a flour surface. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise for an hour. Separate the dough into as many pizzas as you would like.
Roll the dough out to the desired thickness and shape like a candy cane.
Sprinkle a small amount of cornmeal onto your pizza stone or pan and place the pizza crust on it. Par-bake the pizza in a 500 degree oven for 2 minutes.
Remove the pizza crust from the oven and turn the heat down to 400 degrees.
Flip the dough over and top with sauce, pepperoni and mozzarella cheese. Place pepperoni overlapping in strips for the stripes of the candy cane. Sprinkle the basil, salt and pepper to taste.
Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown.

Love it.. because my children’s school doesn’t want us to send in sugary treats anymore.. with some part skim mozzerella and maybe even swap the pepperoni for some veggies.. this is a cute idea and fall within the guidelines. And really what kid doesn’t like pizza?
