How To Go To Disney For Cheap Or Free is a question that is asked daily by many people. Often times the question comes up and is scoffed at as an impossibility. We are here to prove that you can indeed manage a cheap or free vacation. It takes time and effort, but it is manageable for many people.
For many families, visiting Disneyland or Disney World is a dream that seems nearly impossible. As the premier amusement park in the nation, Disney has become the ultimate family vacation for many people.
How to go to Disney for Cheap
We have been to Disney and there are many ways to save while you are there and I will be finishing up those posts soon so be on the look out for them because it will save you TONS of money! I love helping you all and if I can help you be able to not only get to Disney but save a TON while you are there at one of my favorite places to go with the kids (it has been my favorite trip we have taken so far) then that will make me smile!
Making memories, while going to awesome places while being on a budget and doing it the frugal way is how anyone can get to Disney and make memories that will last a life time and I would love nothing more then to hear about people going to Disney and making awesome family memories!
How to go to Disney for Cheap or FREE
Use Credit Card Rewards Points
This option is one that a lot of people are against because it involves the use of credit cards. While never an advocate of putting yourself in debt, the use of a credit card to pay bills on a regular basis is a great idea as long as you are able to ALWAYS pay off your balance regularly.
Not only does Disney have it’s own credit card with rewards opportunities (including regular free ticket offers), many other credit cards like Chase, Capital One, American Express and Citi offer various rewards systems. You can redeem for tickets, hotel stays or even flights with many of these card companies. While it isn’t handing you something totally free, it is a reward for using their card regularly.
As long as you follow the rule of only using when you can pay it off, then you can take full advantage of these rewards with peace of mind.
Personally I love my Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card. When you sign up for this card and spend $3000 in the first 3 months you get 50,000 bonus points. If you are going to be spending that money on a Disney World trip then you can make the most out of your money to get to the $3000 mark and then get your points. Your points are then able to be redeemed for many different rewards, including travel. Which I cash mine out for travel because they give you 25% more value then cashing them out for anything else.
To make the most out of your new card, I would suggest buying discounted Disney Gift cards, with your credit card and then using your gift cards to buy your park tickets and your resort payment along with the food on your trip in the Disney Parks. Then you can use the bonus points for any other travel you have coming up.
But if you are going to be spending $3000 for a Disney trip you might as well get some perks out of it, by getting a new credit card that has an awesome bonus.
If you are looking for a credit card that is great for flying on Delta, I have the Delta Gold American Express Card. This card give you 40,000 bonus miles when you spend $3000 within the first 3 months and a $50 statement credit when you make a Delta airlines purchase within the first 3 months. Depending on the cost of your flight, you could spend $1000 on airline tickets, getting $50 back on your statement making it $950 for your airfare and then have the bonus miles to use later as well.
Plus with this card you earn miles when you use it, so when I need to earn miles I use it for my everyday expenses like groceries and then pay it off as soon as I get home.
My Favorite Cards for Making a Disney Trip Cheap!
The Chase Freedom Card gives you a $150 Statement credit when you spend $500 in your first 3 months. So what I did was buy $500 worth the Disney Gift Cards, got my $150 statement credit and paid the card balance off and scored $500 worth the Disney Gift Cards for $350!
The Chase Disney Card gives you $200 back as a statement credit when you spend $500 in the first 3 months. So what I did was buy $500 worth the Disney Gift Cards, got my $200 statement credit and paid the card balance off and scored $500 worth the Disney Gift Cards for $300!
Enter Disney Vacation Sweepstakes & Giveaways.
Sure this is what may seem like an unlikely way to make a free trip happen, but considering I can personally name 4 different friends who have won trips through sweepstakes, it isn’t impossible. Start searching for Disney sweepstakes and enter them regularly. Make sure they are from reputable blogs or the Disney sites themselves. Buy Passes For Special Holiday Events. Near Halloween and occasionally Christmas, the parks will have extended hours for special events.
During those longer hours, they often sell half price tickets to the park when you enter after 4pm. Considering the park itself is usually open until midnight or later, you can still see the bulk of the rides at a fraction of the cost. Of course keep checking back to the blog because when I see them I post about them 🙂
Go to Disney For Work
Are you a PR person? Travel Blogger? Media representative? If so, you may be able to receive 1-2 free passes in exchange for your review of the parks. While there are some pretty strict regulations and standards to receive these passes – it is a great way to take advantage of your career to send your family on a great vacation. Suggesting your boss create a Disney work conference for extra credit is also a possibility. While it might not work, you’d be surprised at the number of companies who will host events on Disney grounds to help boost moral and increase their employees productivity.
Cash In On Hotel Rewards
If your family does a lot of traveling, or you do a lot of traveling for work this is a great option. It may take a year or longer of multiple hotel stays to acquire enough for a few free nights, but once you do you will save over half your expenses in one place.
Cashing in on free hotel stays is a huge chunk of your Disney budget taken care of easily. Some of the hotels that have rewards programs are Best Western, Country Inn and Suites, Red Roof, Marriot, Raddisson and more!
Military Members Disney Discounts
You can get hopper passes on base or at Shades of Green and get four day park hoppers for $257 a person. Be sure to check out the other Military Disney Discounts you can score.
Sure these ways require some planning and work on your part, but if Disney is your goal – it is well worth the time and effort. Figuring out how to go to Disney for cheap or free is all about utilizing the rewards programs you have at your disposal and thinking outside the box.

This are good tips. I have entered many sweeps to win a trip to DW but haven’t gotten lucky yet. But my fingers are crossed that I will one day 🙂

We are a military family and try to go to Disney world as often as we can. We like to stay at Shades Of Green, because the rooms are large. The military tickets that are available right now are four day park hoppers for $169, not 5 days for $99. Thanks for the the tips!

HI! where did you get the price for the 5 day park hopper for $99 for military? Im planning a trip soon and what I have is a 4 day park hopper for 169.00. If i can get it cheaper I will totally do that. thank you. Please let me know

I think it depends on the base you are at because one of my friends said at her base it was $99 for a 5 day pass other friends said the $169 so I am thinking it depends on the base you are stationed at what they are offering

thank you =)

You’ve shared some great tips here – another I would add is to save money by only buying the passes that you need. The Magic Your Way tickets come in lots of shapes and sizes and adding things like non expiration or park hopping privileges adds to the cost – but you might not really need them.

Thanks for the tips! This past March my husband and I were able to get 2 free passes to the Disney Theme Park of our choice by staying at a certain hotel and sitting through a timeshare. We paid $179 for 3 nights at a hotel, which was less than what we would have paid for 2 tickets to the park!

We have been looking into this. Do you mind sharing which time share?

Great tips! We love going to Disneyland but man-oh-man is it expensive. I definitely need to enter more sweepstakes.

I am trying to find out some information on the military passes. I have someone that wanted to purchase us passes for my son’s birthday since that’s what he wants. She is family and was going to get them at her base but won’t be going with us. Is that possible or can we use them if we aren’t military and she isn’t with us? I don’t want to go all that way and all that money be wasted but she is trying to save money. Thanks in advance!

You can also rent points from someone who owns a timeshare at a Disney resort. It’s called “Disney Vacation Club” and points go for something like $12-$15 a point. Then if you go during the week (Sunday-Thursday), even the best hotels only cost 9-12 points. That’s super cheap for one of Disney’s luxury hotels. We stayed at a top luxury hotel, in a studio room with a fridge, balcony, microwave, kitchen sink, toaster, nicer pool, boat service to the parks, etc., for only $120 a night. The catch is that you can’t cancel in the last couple weeks or so. And you have to book 10-12 months in advance because timeshare rooms go fast. Do a Yahoo search for “Rent DVC points” – you can rent them online. Also look for the DVC points calculator. Good luck!
